Xenobot and Tibia on Linux

About

Hello there, in this little tutorial I'll be showing you how to install and run Xenobot in Ubuntu. In total it shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes if done correctly.

For those of you who don't know what Ubuntu is, it's a FREE operating system that I happen to prefer over Mac and Windows. It is open source and perfect =P. I urge everyone to at least test it. Tibia and Xenobot actually run better for me on Ubuntu then on Windows (which surprised me) You can get Ubuntu (or test it out) at: www.ubuntu.com (http://www.ubuntu.com) In the thread, I will try to add as many pictures as I can. I won't, however, put them in the thread itself and will post a link after each instruction that you can consult should you need to.

Getting Started

Things you will need:

Ubuntu - www.ubuntu.com (http://www.ubuntu.com)
Tibia - Download latest version <HERE> (https://dl.dropbox.com/s/uce94q3wz5b37m2/Tibia.zip?dl=1)
Xenobot - Default installer won't work. Click <HERE> (https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ntc3zmf83138xa8/Xenobot.zip?dl=1)

Step One:

Open up Terminal (by pressing the Ubuntu logo on the top-left corner (or press the "Windows" key) and typing Terminal)

http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6858/screenshotfrom201211131.png

Type in the following:

sudo -s

It will ask for your password. Type it in. Then, type in the following lines:

add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
apt-get update
apt-get install wine1.5
apt-get install winetricks

Note that during these processes, it will ask you to press some keys (Enter and Y, I believe).
Close the Terminal

Step Two:

Extract Tibia and Xenobot to any folder inside your home folder
EX: ( /home/*username*/ or /home/*username*/Games )
If you wish, do what I do and keep the Xenobot folder inside of the Tibia folder (just seems better organized to me I guess)

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/6858/screenshotfrom201211131.png

Step Three:

Just as you had searched for Terminal earlier, search for WINE, and click on the first option

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6858/screenshotfrom201211131.png

Click on "Default Settings"
Close to the bottom of the window, click on the drop-down menu and select "Windows 98"

http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/6858/screenshotfrom201211131.png

Close the settings window

Step Four: The only steps you actually have to remember

Open Tibia
Open Xenobot
Inject Xenobot

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6858/screenshotfrom201211131.png

Enjoy!

Extras

Creating Desktop Shortcuts:
On Ubuntu, it used to be really easy to create desktop shortcuts. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. I'm sure they'll make it simple again soon but, until then, follow these directions to add Tibia and Xenobot to your Desktop. With this method, however, Tibia icon and Xenobot icon don't show up. There are instructions later in the tutorial to help you obtain the original icons.

Steps:

Open a Terminal Window (Follow instruction picture above)
Type:

sudo -s

Enter your password
Type: (Press Y and ENTER when prompted)

sudo apt-get install gnome-panel
gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/ --create-new

Fill in the required information
Done!

Getting the Icons:

Download the Icon Extracter <HERE> (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/iconsext.zip)
Extract the EXE (not other files) into your home folder (or a subfolder)
Open the program, click on "Browse Folders...", and select your tibia folder. (Don't forget to click on "Search Subfolders" if the Xenobot folder is inside the Tibia Folder)

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/5530/screenshotfrom201211181.png

Click on "Search for Icons"
Click on the Icons you want (Ctrl+Click for multiple Icons)
Click on the Save Icon in the top-left corner and click on "Save Icons"
Drag the Icons you want to their designated folders (Tibia Icon in Tibia Folder, etc)
Open each Icon and save them as a PNG Image
Open the "Create Launcher" Program (opened in the last set of steps)
Click on the Icon (It's the image to the left)
Locate and Select the Folders with the Icon you want for each program (one at a time)

http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/4199/screenshotfrom201211181a.png

Click "OK"
Done! Enjoy =)

I really hope you enjoyed my thread, I put a lot of hard work into this and hope it helps a lot of people. As I said earlier, I REALLY urge you all to try using Ubuntu. My Tibia actually runs smoother then ever on here =) and the OS is really small.

Also, note that I have included two .ZIP files. One if for Xenobot and one is for Tibia. The Xenobot one is required because the Xenobot installer will not work. You can, however, install Tibia via the normal installer but it'll get a little comlicated as you'd have to find your Ubuntu home folder.

When you open Xenobot, a new folder should be created in your home folder (and thus, you shouldn't leave the actual Xenobot folder in the main directory. Put it inside the Tibia folder). This new folder is the one where you put Scripts and Settings for the bot.

It's an amazing OS and very light (less then 1GB I believe) Also very easy to install and will pretty much run on anything (even some tablets). You just need to make a cd, boot from it, and click the buttons and you'll have Linux =)

Nick, I wanted to know if, for future versions of Xenobot (maybe in the distant future even), there could be a different installer. Nothing urgent really, it would just make it so people don't have to download .zip files when doing this (or similar things)

Well sure, if you want to be radical about it =P
Ubuntu is extremely light compared to Windows, which is what (I'm guessing) 99% of the people on the forum use.

When I use Xenobot, it wants me to change my hardware ID, even though I'd assume that on the same PC it'd have the same ID, and I boot into Windows more often though I'd like to make the shift over to Ubuntu.

I see. Try it on trial then? Maybe it'll work smoother for you like it did for me =)
For some reason, it didn't seem as nice running the bot on Windows. IDK why.

I really do think that the same PC should be able to use the bot despite of the operating system or fresh installs of windows?

Anyone wanna sign on that and maybe get it implemented? =P

I also have graphical issue's in Linux, I assume it's because I never installed my gfx card and it's a AMD and I've heard they don't work particularly well with Linux. I think it should be allowed but I'm unsure if it's easy for Nick to check it as I presume it comes up with a different ID, I find it annoying as I have 2 OS' now on my PC and my laptop which I use constantly, but if he allowed for multiple keys then you could basically just buy one key and request more for your friends, not an easy way to solve it sadly :(

Too much crap to sift through. I know everyone is loyal to a different distro/flavor so I don't want to start a war, but just know that Ubuntu is *not* light, and furthermore they've taken a weird direction with Unity. Whether or not you like it, the closedness of it is aggravating.

I recommend Lubuntu or Mint.

Thanks for the post, keep the Linux strong my friend.

Here's an IP changer if anyone wants that as well.

I'm not really "loyal" to anything really =P Also, I had corrected myself and said it's light compared to windows, which most people on the forum use. My windows, for example, used 60gb on its own (before I cut it down to about 16-20).

Also, I hate LXDE (looks too much like windows, I find the way Ubuntu looks pretty calming) and I don't think mint looks nice at all.

I have a computer that can run 3X of anything, I figured the little bit extra Ubuntu adds on won't hurt too much. It does look the best after all =P

The issue with letting the bot run on duel boots and etc is that someone can just run a VM and have the bot running, essentially they can just install it on a "server" and use it on any pc's. (This is assuming a lot about the bot that I don't know for sure regarding the hardware id's. ;p )

And uh, i'll be testing this really soon (leaving for "vacation" today. ) yay.

Also, this is kind of a side question... What do you guys think THE best version of Linux is currently? I need to adapt to it for school but it mostly seems like a pain... haha. I've heard great things about Ubuntu however. ^.^

It really depends on what you like best. If you want an extremely light but (in my opinion) ugly one, go with Mint, Arch Linux, etc.
I prefer Ubuntu because it runs really well, looks great, and it's very easy to learn to use if you're new to it.
Go with Ubuntu. Then, if you don't like it, change.

Opinions are opinions man. I think each operating system should be completely different. Mint reminds me a little too much of windows. I get why you would prefer it though, I just happen not to.
Also, I made this guide to help people who are new to linux. People who have used it for a long time probably wouldn't need it as much. Ubuntu is well known for attracting more newcomers.

Lets keep my thread free of discussion please. It's not about what Linux distribution is the best, it's about whether my guide is good and will help people or not.
Please rate and give your opinions.

That's the fun part about Arch. It's super minimal, no bloat. It doesn't even have a GUI by default, only command line. It gives you the opportunity to install any flashy customizations you want.

Well, it used to be that to use an MC you had to use a hex editor and change some stuff. This would still be completely possible to do on Ubuntu.

If you moved from Mac to Windows & didn't like it, you DEFINITELY won't then proceed to like Linux :|

Also, could OP post sources for the patch? I'd love to know what changes are made to Tibia to make it run...

Either that, or let me know how you got Patch.exe (where from, how safe it is etc)

I'm contemplating making Linux my main OS now, the only reason (as with many other people here) that I don't use it is because a) I can't bot and b) I can't play WoW. I can play WoW on my TV, so I don't really have to worry about that...

Well I think that's highly subjective. I prefer windows over mac, but linux over windows.

Isn't this thread about botting on linux? Haven't tested it but it seems to work...
And I've run WoW many, many, maaaannnyy times on linux. Wine doesn't see that great of a performance decrease on linux, and I never had problems with crashing/debugging.

So, I was looking around for a HEX way to edit it like Chuitox did at his topic. Try the following:

- Instal the Tibia's Linux version
- Instal the hex editor: http://home.gna.org/bless/ ( its one for linux.. you can find others but I saw thats this is one of the best)
- Try to change the hex like chuitox advised here: http://forums.xenobot.net/showthread.php?19129-Alternative-Multiclient-Solution

Edit: you can try to edit the HEX of Window's Tibia too.. but I think that the Linux version would perform better.

No, why spend time on development for a demographic of maybe 100 or so users?

Because the one that makes it gonna get all customers from linux. Maybe a low percentage uses linux, but that's not 100 people, many more

Do you had any success on using MC on linux?

Do you had any success on using MC on linux?

Nah, wasn't about mc, just the bot.

I install tibia and xeno OK with latest wine. Then when I try open injector.exe it gives and error, I did search on google and it's because I don't have installed WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation). WMI comes with wine but emulate it only partially, no success on trying to open the bot. Tested with Ubuntu 13.10 x86 and x64, same result.

Nvm, had installed Win7 on another partition to play Tibia.

I don't even know what to say to this, but for your sake i'll try my best.
First, why would you sudo -s then sudo all over your other commands? Sudo -s gives you root so you don't have to type sudo every other command.
Second, don't put xenobot in your tibia folder, this wont matter at the moment(or it does, who the hell knows with all this NSA/no privacy shit), but like blizzard fucked up american laws by allowing themselves to spy on shit like this, bla bla bla will sooner or later affect you when Germany starts abusing their laws the same way, yada yada, you got banned.
Third, don't set your default wine settings to win98, do you live in the stone age? no. Just put tibia on win98, this is soon to be 2014 god dammit.
Forth, sudo -s, still no.

The rest is just, double click the icon, spam next, ggwp.

Don't get me wrong though, it's nice that you try and encourage people to use linux and all. And the pictures were nice...

I'm having issues getting Xenobot to recognize my linux clients.

Using Wine, I can run Xenobot and the Tibia client just fine. I can also run the Tibia Linux client just fine. However, the Xenobot program will only recognize one particular version of Tibia: the one provided in this tutorial.

Unfortunately, the provided client is out of date. When I run it, it downloads something and tries to run the external patching program. The patching program fails and asks for administrator rights.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Using Ubuntu v12.xx, wine v1.6, the programs linked in this tutorial, and the client from the Tibia website.

Thanks for the input. I was really, really new to linux when I made this tutorial (and I was a lot younger). Now I know these things, but the tut works so there's no real reason to change it.

BTW, the bot in the Tibia folder doesn't matter.

I haven't done it (and don't plan on trying again anytime soon), but maybe tick the little MC box on Xenosuite and open another Tibia Client?
Let me know if that works.

I'm having trouble getting through this tutorial.
When I set WINE to win 98 after closing WINE it will not open again, at all.
I've had to go in and reset the WINE install to default all the settings. Which in the process off deletes all downloads in the WINE tree.
I'm clearly very new to Linux and would appreciate any help with this issue.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 and WINE 1.6

When xenosuite asks for my username and password I get the "e06: Error in WinHttpRecieveResponse()!". I have tried messing with the wine settings, wine1.6 and the most current, reinstall and whatnot. Anyone else got this?

EDIT:
Install winetricks, open it, select the default win prefix, install a win dll or component and check winhttp.

I had problems with this all day, but after a few reinstalls of winetricks it suddenly worked out. Good luck.
